Black Crafters Guild

African Diasporans creating, decorating, and artistically altering by hand

Founded in 2003 by Cheryl Edwards, Black Crafters Guild is a free, nonprofit resource. Within an Afrocentric, anti-classist, handcrafts-oriented framework, Black Crafters Guild is dedicated to supporting the African Diasporan tradition of self-employment and enjoyment through manually and artistically creating and altering items. By “handcrafting”, “by hand”, “handcrafts” and "manual", we refer to crafting done by hand, mouth, foot, or other part of one's body.

-BCG aims to

- help enable artisans of any age employ themselves through their crafts by providing opportunities to sell or raise awareness of their manually-made artistic items, as well as network for information and cost-reduction partnerships;

- provide information on African Diaspora-related crafting resources and events, as well as booth rental info and other crafts-distribution opportunities;

- reconnect children and youth -- in a hands-on manner and with an afrocentric focus -- with the African Diasporan tradition of creating decorative functional and non-functional items by hand.

You are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity to share your work or crafting experiences, help and be helped, and/or network with others who are engaged in handmade, hand-painted, or hand-decorated crafting for fun and/or profit

Many BCG crafters design the items they make or decorate, and some who sell their crafts also fill custom orders.

Black Crafters Guild is based in Ontario, Canada.
