Black Crafters Guild

African Diasporans creating, decorating, and artistically altering by hand

"Recently I've been in contact with a Black crafter living in New Orleans. As part of a research project I wrote to about 50 Black crafters/artists who participated in the 2008 Essence Music Festival held this year in New Orleans. One of the respondents was Nadyja Bynum. While emailing her this morning, Fri. July 18, I mentioned the BCG to her. Then it occurred to me that maybe Black Crafters Guild members might purchase a booth as a guild at one of these big shows, which generally have booth fees in excess of $1000. In a recent--a few months ago-BCG newsletter I read about putting together a show either in Canada or the U.S. Plugging in to a preexisting venue might be a more cost effective alternative.

There are at least three big show in the U.S. that I can think of off the top of my head:
Essence Music Festival--in rotating cities, July, first weekend I believe

National Black Arts Festival--in Atlanta, GA, July 24-27,2008

Pan African Film and Arts Festival--Los Angeles, CA, Feb. 5-16 2009

African World Festival sponsored by the Charles H. Wright Museum--Detroit, MI, August 15,16,17

Hope all is well in your part of our world.
